Telcos need to seize the authentication opportunity before it’s too late. Facebook, Google and others already offer identity services to third-party websites, which allow users to login using their existing social network credentials. However, telcos have an advantage when it comes to reach and privacy considerations. Some MNOs have developed commercial propositions around user authentication services for example fraud prevention for financial services, with mixed success. This discussion will focus on leveraging unique operator assets such as SIM cards to provide secure, private frictionless authentication and the appetite for the service, as well as the potential to stave off or even reverse the revenue decline from OTP and A2P messaging and how RCS/ RBM can bolster this.
