Open access networks separate delivery of services from the infrastructure layer, creating an open platform for ISPs to add value and avoid conflict of interest with customers. At the same time, copper switch-off significantly enhances the business case for fibre-based networks, which are more reliable and energy efficient. This session will unpick how to adapt network infrastructure to facilitate future automation and innovation demands including a zero trust approach to network architecture; how to resolve challenges, such as coordinating interconnections with competing private network providers, and what the impact will be of shutting down fibre exchanges on delivery of ethernet services.
